چکیده

We study various matrix models with a charge-charge interaction as toy models of the gauge dual of the AdS black hole. These models show a continuous spectrum and power-law decay of correlators at late time and infinite N , implying information loss in this limit. At finite N , the spectrum is discrete and correlators have recurrences, so there is no information loss. We study these models by a variety of techniques, such as Feynman graph expansion, loop equations, and sum over Young tableaux, and we obtain explicitly the leading 1/N2 corrections for the spectrum and correlators. These techniques are suggestive of possible dual bulk descriptions. At fixed order in 1/N2 the spectrum remains continuous and no recurrence occurs, so information loss persists. However, the interchange of the long-time and large-N limits is subtle and requires further study. [email protected] [email protected] [email protected]

In the present work the approach density matrix deformation earlier developed by the author to study a quantum theory of the Early Universe (Planck’s scales) is applied to study a quantum theory of black holes. On this basis the author investigates the information paradox problem, entropy of the black hole remainders after evaporation, and consistency with the holographic principle. The possibi...

The Planckian Conspiracy: String Theory and the Black Hole Information Paradox

It has been argued that the consistency of quantum theory with black hole physics requires nonlocality not present in ordinary effective field theory. We examine the extent to which such nonlocal effects show up in the perturbative S-matrix of string theory.

A Unitary S-matrix for 2D Black Hole Formation and Evaporation

We study the black hole information paradox in the context of a two-dimensional toy model given by dilaton gravity coupled toN massless scalar fields. After making the model well-defined by imposing reflecting boundary conditions at a critical value of the dilaton field, we quantize the theory and derive the quantum S-matrix for the case that N=24. This S-matrix is unitary by construction, and ...
